California cities rank among the most dangerous for drivers

By Newport Beach Personal Injury Attorney on September 6, 2010

Ten California cities rank among the 50 most dangerous driving cities in the nation. In fact, only two California cities are rated by the study as safer than average.

The Allstate Insurance Company just released its sixth annual “Allstate America's Best Drivers Report™.” The report looks at America's 200 largest cities in terms of car accident frequency and uses these statistics to determine which cities have the safest drivers.

According to their statistics, the average American driver is involved in a car wreck once every ten years.
Forty-three California cities were ranked in the report. Salinas received the highest ranking at number 15. A driver in Dayton can expect to average one accident every 11.4 years.

Glendale had the lowest score. It was ranked 191st. Drivers in Glendale can expect to be involved in a car accident about once every 5.9 years. This means Glendale drivers are 70.8% more likely to be involved in a crash than the average American driver.

Six Orange County cities were ranked. Drivers in all those cities have a higher than average risk of being involved in an Orange County car accident.

City, 2010 Best Driver Rank , Average Years between Accidents

Huntington Beach, ranked 87 , 9.7 years between accidents
Orange, ranked 101, 9.3 years between accidents
Santa Ana, ranked 120, 8.9 years between accidents
Anaheim, ranked 139, 8.4 years between accidents
Fullerton, ranked 164, 7.6 years between accidents
Garden Grove, ranked 166, 7.6 years between accidents

Los Angeles ranked 183rd. Drivers can expect to be involved in a Los Angeles car accident about once every 6.9 years.

“America's Safest Driving City” in the nation is Fort Collins, Colorado. According to the report, the average driver in Fort Collins will experience a car accident every 14.5 years. This makes those drivers about 31 percent less likely to be involved in a car crash than the national average.
