We have found through the years that many accidents are caused by young, inexperienced drivers. National Teen Driver Safety Week is October 17 -23. Some thoughts on teaching your teens to drive.
- Drive like you want them to drive. Show them that you take driving seriously and also set a good example. Refrain from expressing frustration due to driving conditions or other drivers.
- Have your teen practice driving in different conditions such as a weather, lighting, road type and traffic conditions.
- Make the car a distraction-free zone. Set the cell phone to Do Not Disturb when you are in the car so there is no temptation to answer a text message while driving.
Many accidents these days are caused by people reading and responding to texts and emails. Many traffic collision reports now have a check box to indicate that a driver’s use of a cell phone contributed to the accident.
